All About Ecoadventure

With environmental responsibility becoming a key global issue, the new buzzword in the travel sector is "ecotourism".

According to The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) in 1990, Ecotourism is described as "responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people". While many varying definitions exist, Eco-travel essentially is one which focuses on preserving the natural state of the visited areas as well as improving the economic conditions of the locals.

Broadly speaking, ecotourism focuses on volunteering, encourages personal growth in an environment of nature and cultural heritage. It provides an insight into our impacts, as human beings and also a greater appreciation of our own natural habitats.

about ecotourism

Simply trekking through the thick rainforests of the Amazon or going on a photographic trail of African wildlife does not necessarily make one an Ecotraveller. A true Ecotraveller is one who works towards minimising the harmful environmental impact of traditional tourism while maximising the locals' cultural integrity.

EcoAdventures is an initiative by Jet Airways, to introduce globetrotters to an alternative type of travel. Our tour packages are designed in a way to incorporate volunteer and outreach programs into the itinerary, instead of solely sightseeing.

How this holiday makes a difference
about ecotourism

Social Responsibility

We ensure that all assistance programmes and local community projects travellers choose to participate in or contribute to are respectful of local cultures and tradition. All projects take place only with the full agreement of local elders. As often as we can, we have selected to work alongside local charities and support their aims. Travellers are guided by our staff members, who are fully briefed on the destination, host community, local culture, religions, customs and particularly ways of behaving.

Environmental Policy

Resources such as heating in camps where possible is done in an environmentally friendly fashion e.g. using solar panels. In addition rainwater is collected for use instead of relying solely on piped water. Clothes washing is done where possible with bio-degradable soap. Litter is collected and disposed of properly.

Economic Sustainability

Without compromising on quality, safety or hygiene, we source our accommodation, food, drink, equipment, fuel from the local community whenever possible. In addition, our cooks, drivers, cleaners and other workers are hired locally, thus providing employment opportunities for locals. This way, travellers on Jet Airways' EcoAdventures holidays are helping to enhance the economic well-being of the villagers.
